Quail Creek State Park
Quail Creek State Park is a reservoir-based recreation area located about 15 miles northeast of St. George near the town of Hurricane. The park surrounds Quail Creek Reservoir, which was created in 1985 as part of a regional water storage project. Its striking blue water contrasts with the surrounding red sandstone hills and desert terrain, making it a popular destination in southern Utah.
The park is especially known for boating, fishing, swimming, and paddle sports. Warm water temperatures and calm conditions attract visitors throughout much of the year, while anglers fish for trout, bass, and crappie. Two boat ramps, picnic areas, and a campground provide convenient access for day visitors and overnight campers.
Quail Creek also offers scenic hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities around the shoreline. The park’s desert setting supports a variety of birds and native plants, and nearby trails provide views of the Pine Valley Mountains and surrounding mesas. Its smaller size and quieter atmosphere make it less crowded than many nearby recreation areas.
Because of its location near Zion National Park and Sand Hollow State Park, Quail Creek State Park is often used as a stop for travelers exploring southwestern Utah. The combination of accessible water recreation, desert scenery, and year-round outdoor activity makes it an important recreational resource for both residents and tourists.
